School Place, home for your Papay visit, is the former Free Presbyterian School, right in the centre of the island. With four comfortable guest bedrooms all having either en suite or private facilities it makes a splendid base for exploration. A large west-facing conservatory serves as a lounge/reading room and dining room for guests and offers the prospect of spectacular summer sunsets. Books, music, time for quiet reflection or meditation are all essential elements of your stay at School Place.

Hosts Morag and Jim Hewitson specialise in providing a personalised island experience which includes meeting and greeting guests at the pier or airstrip and providing acclaimed evening meals which focus on the delicious produce of Papay and the surrounding seas, including lobster, wonderful strawberries in season, crab and scallops, and flavour-packed locally-raised lamb.

School place has been the venue already for visiting yoga and meditation groups as well as individuals seeking quiet moments. For the student of archaeology, ornithology, sociology or the connoisseur of far-flung places then Papa Westray can offer a rewarding, spiritually enriching and physically invigorating experience. We are open all year round but if you aim to visit from April to October demand for accommodation is high. Please book early for this period to avoid disappointment.
